What are Dental Lasers?

Lasers are boom in dentistry. It is one of a kind equipment that can help us perform numerous dental operations more efficiently. It is not a specialized speciality, per se. However, it is a technique for speeding up the majority of other specialized processes. Dr. Gunita, Director of Dentem, studied lasers at the University of Vienna and has been practicing them for over a decade, and the majority of my patients are quite pleased with the outcomes. Today, I have completed thousands of cases.

Essentially, the goal is to simplify all other procedures. Assume a root canal treatment would need numerous sittings, but with the use of endomotors and lasers, we can disinfect the channel and fill it in the same day. As a result, the root canal was completed successfully in a single session. Simultaneously, for braces treatment, we used to expose the canine with a knife and suture them; the healing process took time, and then we placed brackets after weeks in a single session; now we simply expose the canine using lasers. No blood, no stitches, no pain, and brackets may be applied in less than 5 minutes. So, as stated, lasers are stitchless, painless, and bloodless operations. What are the types of laser treatment in dentistry?

Laser dentistry in South Delhi has two primary types of procedures: hard tissue and soft tissue. Hard tissue refers to teeth, and soft tissue refers to gums.

The most common hard tissues procedure include:

  • Lasers can discover cavities early by looking for signs of tooth decay.
  • Lasers can eliminate microorganisms in a cavity, which can improve the long-term health of the tooth.
  • Teeth that are sensitive to hot and cold can be treated with dental lasers that seal tubules on the root.
The most common soft tissues procedure include:
      • Lasers are used to reshape gum tissue associated with a “gummy smile,” in which the gums extend over a considerable section of the teeth.
      • Laser reshapes both gum tissue and bone to create a healthy tooth structure, making it easier to place restorations.
      • Laser frenectomy may be beneficial for those who have a thick or tight frenulum (the fold of skin under the front section of the tongue that anchors to the mouth floor). This procedure is for children whose limited frenulum causes them to be tongue-tied, have trouble breastfeeding, or have a speech impediment.
      • Soft tissue folds from ill-fitting dentures can be removed using lasers without causing discomfort or requiring sutures.
      • Laser Dental Treatment in South Delhi helps in the Gum Depigmentation which vaporizes and eliminates a thin top layer of gum tissue, by killing the melanin-producing cells.

Uses of Laser in Dentistry:

  • Removing the tissue surrounding an exposed wisdom tooth
  • Changing the shape of gum tissue
  • During crown lengthening, bone and gum tissue are removed and reshaped.
  • Removing gum tissue that has become inflamed
  • Getting rid of muscular attachments that limit tongue or lip movement
  • Speeding up in-office tooth whitening procedures
  • Reducing the discomfort from cold sores and cankers
  • Preparing the tooth enamel for composite bonding
  • Repairing certain worn-out fillings

Benefits of using Laser:

  • Soft tissue lasers could potentially reduce the need for sutures.
  • Bleeding is reduced in treated soft tissues because the laser promotes blood coagulation.
  • Some procedures don’t require anesthetic.
  • The laser sterilizes the area, lowering the risk of bacterial infections.
  • Wounds can heal quickly, and tissue can regenerate.
  • The procedure may cause less injury to adjacent tissues.

Disadvantages of Lasers:

  • Lasers cannot be used on teeth that have certain fillings, such as amalgam.
  • Hard lasers can occasionally harm tooth pulp.
  • Some laser procedures still require anesthesia.
  • Certain procedures cannot be performed with laser treatment due to existing surrounding tissue or components involving the tooth or gums.
  • There is a possibility of gum damage.

After-care tips:

For the first 24 hours after your periodontal laser therapy, we encourage you to adhere to a soft diet. Hard and hard meals should be avoided since they may interfere with tissue repair. Avoiding smoking, alcohol, and citrus foods is also recommended to assist the surgery region heal faster.

Pay attention to your gums after laser therapy, even if you are not in pain or only have slight discomfort. You will need to take specific precautions against the clots that will form following surgery. They help the gums heal. So don’t wash your teeth or gums too aggressively.

So, I believe that lasers have improved my skills as a dentist in South Delhi significantly. We can now perform a wide range of procedures more efficiently in Dentem.
