Dental X-rays are the backbone of dentistry. They provide better insight to the internal structures of the mouth, teeth and the associated bone/structures. There are many types of dental X-rays, but periapical and panoramic radiographs (OPG) are the most common ones. Periapical X-rays are useful for focusing on just one or two teeth whereas panoramic X-ray is used to show the entire mouth in one image which includes your upper and lower teeth. It is taken from the outer layer of your mouth and can assist detect cysts, jaw diseases, and bone anomalies. Other radiographs include occlusal X-rays, bitewing radiographs, cephalometric X-rays, and advanced imaging like Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT).
Advanced imaging techniques like CBCT helps in the analysis of bone and associated structures in procedures like implant placement. CBCT serves as a gold standard for the hard tissue analysis in implant placements. CBCT also helps in 3D visualization and risk assessment associated with these procedures.
